Case Study: Simplified Yacht Ownership
Simplified Yacht Ownership
Acquisition of a yacht can be one of the stepping stones you have planned for in your life. Taking care of details, to ensure you enjoy that achievement is our job. One of our services is the management of yacht acquisition, with a current example involving purchase of a yacht for a long-standing client.
We negotiated and orchestrated the sale of the yacht, conducted searches to hire an experienced captain and crew, and arranged client-requested upgrades. As part of the process we engaged a marine attorney and arranged for appraisal, inspection, and adequate insurance coverage.
This was just the beginning of our full service approach. We helped the family create an LLC to limit owner liability to allow for future charter of the boat. Through the LLC, we maintain books and records for accounting and tax purposes. We established an operations and capital expenditures budget, a maintenance schedule to ensure proper upkeep of the yacht, set up payroll for crew, and implemented an expense reimbursement program with appropriate approval procedures. Quarterly, we produce budget-to-actual reports to accurately capture the cost to own and operate the boat.
We researched and negotiated dock leases in marinas and set up memberships at associated yacht clubs. The yacht is always ready to receive the family , as we communicate scheduling information, dietary needs, and special requests to the crew. By handling all aspects of the purchase, operation, and maintenance of the boat, our client is free to enjoy yachting, confident that all details are managed.
